This month's Detroit Public Schools Radio program features Principal Nancy Ross of Ronald Brown Academy, the winner of the prestigious "Panasonic School Turnaround Award." Principal Ross was one of only 6 winners in the nation and she shares the secrets of her success! DPS Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership, Sharon Appling, will discuss the benefits and challenges of redesigning 5 DPS High Schools. Renaissance High School Graduate and current Yale University student, Brandon Keeler, shares how he garnered $800,000 dollars in scholarship funds. Additional guests include teacher Wanda Banks of Ronald Brown Academy, Principal Brenda Belcher of Crockett Technical High School and Crockett graduate Taslima Ahktar. The Detroit Public Schools' Radio program airs the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm on 90.9 WRCJ, a service of Detroit Public Schools and Detroit Public Television. 08/06/08
Wednesday August 8th DPSR program features a discussion on the National Board Certification program. Detroit Public School Students will interview National Board Certified Teacher Program Supervisor Julie Pita, National Board Certified Teachers Michelle Ballard, and Viviana Bonafede.

DPS students will also talk with Jamison Elementary principal David Harris and Jamison Elementary Teacher and Michigan Teacher of the Year Kim Kyff. The program concludes with Detroit Public Schools Director of Curriculum Shirley Brown.

The program features an in-depth discussion on DPS' Career and Technical Education programs with Director Arlene Gibson and Supervisors Harrison Duke and David Robinson. The program also features two graduates of the program Shavon Riley and Shaunton Davis sharing their experiences in Career and Technical Education. Also DPS Chief Financial Officer Joan McCray discusses the mission, purpose and changing scope of the DPS financial department. Student hosts for this program are Gary Hodges, Lindsay Holmes, and Imani Lee with additional student contributors.

The Detroit Public Schools Radio Program will feature newly appointed Deputy Superintendent Sue Carnell and her work for the Detroit Public Schools.

Principal Bernadine Carroll and the students from Hanstein Elementary School talk about the first ever opera written by children. Read more about the students in the Detroit Free Press

Principal Rita Davis from Halley magnet middle school appears with her award winning students in science, poetry, literature and spelling. BONUS FEATURE: the students read from their own works.
There will also be annoucements about various events within the school district.

The Detroit Public Schools Radio Program will feature Detroit School of the Arts (DSA) seniors Kimatha Bell and Joanne Nelson as hosts. Ms. Nelson interviews Superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Dr. Connie Calloway. They discuss Dr. Calloway's vision for the Detroit Pubic School District and her professional track that has brought her to being DPS' superintendent.

Ms. Bell interviews Dr Denise Davis-Cotton, Principal and Founder of Detroit School of Arts. The two have lively discussion about the Dr. Cotton's background and her mission and vision for DSA. Dr. Cotton demonstrates her oratory skills with an excerpt from Langston Hughes "The Negro Mother". DSA students Henry May and Jarae Thompkins deliver news and information about the Detroit Public School District throughout the broadcast.
