Tony is Executive Producer/Jazz, at WDUQ-FM 90.5 in Pittsburgh. He is also the President and Founder of the Pittsburgh Jazz Society (PSJ), and has been one of that city's most enduring champions of jazz for over four decades. Read an article about Tony Mowod from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (PDF 35kb).
Tony founded the PJS in 1987 and serves as its President. PSJ provides yearly scholarships to talented young musicians. In 1998, a $100,000 scholarship endowment fund was created for the PJS by "The Friends of Dr. Howard Gendell," awarding $10,000 each year and assuring the future of the scholarship program.
Tony also founded the Pittsburgh Jazz Society Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame to honor musicians born and reared in Pittsburgh. In 1991, Tony formed the Pittsburgh Jazz Society Big Band, comprised of college and high school musicians. We hope to entice Tony to assist WRCJ with replicating these programs and events at DSA.
Tony has written album/c.d. liner notes for many nationally and locally known artists such as Detroiter Houston Person who was the featured artist at last years Detroit Jazz Festival. info@wduq.org

Bob serves as the WDUQ's production director. With an avid interest in history, Bob has taught the "History of Jazz" at Carnegie Mellon University's Academy for Lifelong Learning, tracing the roots of jazz from 17th century West Africa to the many influences and experiences that have contributed to the evolution of "America's classical music."
Since countless Detroit artists are firmly ensconced in the Pantheon of jazz, all of their programs feature Detroit born or connected musicians quite frequently. info@wduq.org |
