The Ann Arbor Concert Band begins our 46th concert season in wonderful and dynamic fashion. David Leach, Artistic Director and Conductor, steps to the podium to present “Tribute to Robert W. Smith!” celebrating the life, imagination and musical genius of the world renowned composer, conductor and teacher, known for transforming epic stories into musical masterpieces! The concert features “Aces”, a tribute to pilots and the thrill of flight; “American Dances”, celebrating 3 iconic American dance forms – Rag, Square and Swing; “The Divine Comedy (Symphony No.1)”, a breathtaking musical journey through Heaven, Hell, and everything in between, conducted by A2CB asst. conductor Matt Kazmierski ; “Promising Skies”, an interactive tone poem recreating and commemorating the experience of Hurricane Katrina; the cherished and hauntingly beautiful hymn “In the Bleak Midwinter” and a celebration of humanity’s achievements in aviation from the Wright brothers first flight to the moon landing, “12 Seconds to the Moon!”
