Chamber Music at the Scarab Club announces its next concert on Sunday March 9th at 3 pm in the Main Gallery of Detroit’s historic Scarab Club. The program will open with the beautiful sounds of harpist Maurice Draughn and soprano Alice McAllister Tillman. This amazing duo will perform a set of songs by H. Leslie Adams (1932-2024) based on poetry by James Dillet Freeman, Georgia Douglas John and Paul Laurence Dunbar that revolves around the journey of life and love. The series is thrilled to welcome the celebrated soprano, Alice McAllister Tillman, for the first time. Harpist Maurice Draughn is well-known to CMSC and always brings exceptional programs and great artistry.
The concert’s second half will feature the Bayberry String Quartet performing Mozart, Debussy and Gershwin. BSQ is emerging onto the concert scene with recent appearances at Carnegie Hall and the Chautauqua Institute. Only in their sixth season, they have enjoyed residencies at the Chicago Suzuki Institute, STEP Birmingham Chamber Music Workshop, Peaks to Plains Institute in Colorado, and PhoenixPhest in Michigan. In June of 2024, BSQ released an album of early Mozart quartets titled “Only Mozarts in the Building.” The members of the quartet are violinists Nurit Pacht and Steffani Kitayama, violist Gabe Bolkosky and cellist Laura Usiskin.
