The Dearborn Symphony proudly opens its 63rd Season with an exhilarating performance that promises to captivate and inspire. The stage is set for a night of musical brilliance as audience favorite, pianist Gleb Ivanov, returns to deliver a stunning rendition of Rachmaninoff’s beloved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Described by The New York Times as “a cut above the usual, a young super-virtuoso, with musical sensitivity and an appreciation of style to go with the thunder and lightning,” Ivanov’s performance is sure to be a highlight of the evening.

Adding to the excitement, the Dearborn Symphony is honored to welcome composer Gala Flagello, who will personally introduce her compelling piece, Bravado. This is a unique opportunity to hear from a rising star in contemporary classical music, offering insight into the inspiration and creative process behind her work.

After intermission, the orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Steven Jarvi, will take the audience on an emotional journey through Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a masterpiece that explores the profound influence of fate on the human condition. This explosive and introspective work is known for its dramatic contrasts and powerful orchestration, culminating in a finale that bursts with optimism. As Tchaikovsky himself noted, despite the shadow of fate, “there still is happiness, simple, naive happiness. Rejoice in the happiness of others—and you can still live.”

This season opener promises to be an unforgettable experience, where virtuosity, contemporary innovation, and timeless symphonic grandeur come together in a night of extraordinary music. This performance will be held in the Michael A. Guido Theater at Ford Community & Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 4, 2024 beginning at 7:30pm. Total running time is approximately 1 hour 26 minutes including one intermission.

Don’t miss this spectacular start to a season filled with breathtaking concerts. Under the leadership of Maestro Steven Jarvi, the talented musicians of the Dearborn Symphony offer something for everyone this season. Come see for yourself why we’ve been named “Outstanding Community Orchestra” by the Detroit Music Awards a record six times.
